Hello , hello! Happy Friday! This week's reading is from Trysts and Burning Embers: Lijun 2 by Freddy MacKay and me. :D
Also, if you want to know more about the Lijun world and the process of co-writing these stories, please tune in to the WROTE Podcast today where Vance Bastian interviewed the two of us.
Trysts and Burning Embers
Release date: November 20
Up for pre-order now
Barnes and Noble
Fire. Water. Burn.
In the two months since the All Hallows’ Eve party, Tally has courted Haru, buying expensive gifts, taking the two of them to upscale restaurants and trying to find a balance in earning Haru’s fragile trust while being new parents to the Cohen joeys. Tally sees hope in the new domesticity the family has settled into, despite having some bumps along the way.
Gifts and treats have satisfied Haru’s otter, but the human half remembers the brutal lessons of giving their trust away. How can two lijun who barely know each other anticipate what will happen when times get tough? There are circumstances Tally doesn’t understand yet, and Haru struggles to find their feet with an Urusar who doesn’t know the rules.
A revelation not only throws the tentative relationship between them askew, but also starts Tally and Haru down a path the two of them can’t escape, one so heart-wrenching Haru’s not sure their heart will survive.
Traditionalist concerns that have always nipped at the Bastille clan’s heels come roaring to the forefront with demands and ultimatums. Tally needs to fall in line or face further threats to his otter, his family and his clan. Haru needs to find the strength to believe in the good despite the bad. In an environment where it’s vital to know ally from foe, Tally and Haru need to stand united or watch the community Tally’s family has built fall under the thumb of heartless, greedy autocrats.
On Friday, my co-author Freddy MacKay and I return to the WROTE podcast with the wonderful Vance Bastian.
We're talking all things Lijun, from insights to world creation to not-quite-spoilers for book 2, Trysts and Burning Embers. Freddy talks own voices non-binary character writing. And we both extol the virtues of transman fox, Gerhard Klug. :D
Come for the Lijun, stay for the fun questions at the end!
The episode will be available on Friday at:
Or you can find the WROTE podcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, iHeart Radio, Spotify, Stitcher and TuneIn.
In conjunction with the interview, please look for a reading of a Trysts excerpt right here tomorrow!
Yep. I'm reading from one of my own today. Sometimes I get to do that. ;) Semper Fae is book 3 in the Endangered Fae series and while I suppose you could read it first... No. Don't do that. This series really needs to be read in order.
A scene for you from the beginning of Chapter Two - you may yell at me afterwards.
Looking for the rest of the series? Book 1, Finn and Book 2, Diego, are available at Pride Publishing and all the usual retailers. :)
Thank goodness for scheduled posts since I'm at GRL when this goes live :D Semper Fae: Endangered Fae 3 goes LIVE this Tuesday, October 23! (As one reader said, "Finally!" LOL)
In Semper Fae, we follow Zack Morrison in his adventures as the new assistant/bodyguard to a prince of the fae. Magical diseases, meddling kids, and hints of a menacing and powerful mage bent on destruction.
If you haven't started at the beginning, I can only urge you to do so. Reading Endangered Fae out of order is terribly confusing.
Endangered Fae 3
Barnes and Noble
Zack thought he had a strange job before. Working as a Marine medic in a secret government installation was odd, but working as a human liaison to the fae and as the personal assistant to a sidhe prince is downright bizarre. Throw in the fact that he's pretty damn sure he's fallen in love with his boss, and things are close to unmanageable.
Of course, around the fae, one never says 'things can't possibly get any worse'. Unexplained events plague the human world. Strange sightings, spontaneous magical explosions, and odd bends in reality crop up. When Finn falls ill and a monstrous creature attacks Zack, things quickly slide into disaster. Lycanthropy, loose-cannon mages, and Lugh conspire to make a hellish mess of things—but the real peril begins when Diego loses an important piece of his mind.
Endangered Fae 1 & 2 in case you need those first! :D
Some weeks have a pile up of things to report. Naturally, these happen during weeks when I have to travel. I'll be at the Dreamspinner Workshop from Thursday afternoon to Monday evening recharging my author batteries and learning cool stuff.
News on several fronts in the meantime:
Up for pre-order now and releasing October 23 - we have more pre-order links coming in now! The rest should be following shortly.
Barnes and Noble
This will be a new one, eventually, I hope. Manuscript finished and submitted - if this first publisher doesn't want it, we'll go from there. Mage is a M/M paranormal about a young man whose hereditary magic is killing him and the grumpy hermit mage he sees as his last hope.
There's another possible paranormal series out there as well, but that's only in proposal form and I'm not quite ready to talk about it yet.
Off to Orlando! :)
Hello, hello! It's Friday! You made it! And it's time for Reading Day!
Today's excerpt is from Diego - up for pre-order now and releasing on August 14. :D
Endangered Fae 2
Barnes and Noble
After defeating an evil wendigo, a man and his pooka lover deserve a little quiet. Unfortunately, Diego and Finn’s hard-won peace is disturbed when Diego, in jealous anguish, unwittingly rips a hole in the impenetrable Veil to the Otherworld.
Separated, stuck on the other side of the Veil where Finn has to face old conflicts and Diego is the only human in a land of fae, the two of them navigate rocky waters between huge egos and ancient feuds. Worse still, some of the fae are dying of a mysterious illness and everyone believes Diego is the key to a cure. Things can’t possibly get any worse, can they? Oh, yes—they can when the US government gets involved.
Which is less disturbing than Diego, Paper, Scissors, I suppose...
Thing the first - Diego: Endangered Fae 2 is up for pre-order at Pride! Other pre-order links should be following soon here with a release date of August 14.
This book is where things get all fae-stravaganza and fae-complicated. :D
Thing the second and third! Fireworks and Stolen Kisses is out in Paperback now on Amazon as well. For those readers who must have a physical copy, come snag one!
Pride Publishing paperback
Also Haru and Tally are going on tour - so watch for blog posts! Freddy and I have rambled about all sorts of things for this one and there is, of course, a giveaway. :D
The first two posts are up this morning - thank you Amy and Addison!
Thing the last! (For this week, anyway) If you will be at GRL this year and would like to pre-order paperbacks, either for the signing or because you feel like it, please do so at the form below:
OK - so I'm not quite there yet. I'd hoped to have the next Brandywine story done by month end. It's close - at 48K for the word count and climbing, just not quite finished yet. Charon and Azeban's story will be completed soon, though. Then off to the beta to rip and shred. Pack Up The Moon - coming soon. :D
Next - The Holiday Stories Are Here!
Releases begin this week for A Holiday To Remember and continue until 12/30! For all the details, check the Mischief Corner Books website, where there's a lovely cover slideshow.
A Holiday To Remember
Also, All The World's An Undead Stage has gone on tour! Blog tour, that is. Look for interviews with characters you might not expect, columns from me and one original flash prequel piece. :D

Hearts On Fire - Officer Krisk Would Like A Word
The Novel Approach - a post on who the cast should reflect the setting :)

What? Overdramatic? Okay. Maybe it's not quite that bad. Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate! But holiday stories ARE up for pre-order for the Holiday To Remember Collection and the first one goes live 11/29 (Watermelon Kisses.) For the full schedule, blurbs, pre-order links and pretty covers, I've done a convenient blog post here: A Holiday To Remember
And yes, I do have a holiday story this year. :D Really should make an annual thing of it. Mine's up for pre-order now, too, and will go live on December 9.
Safety Protocols For Human Holidays
Growlan Raskli serves as the security officer on an interspecies ship. It's her job to keep the peace amid a wild array of cultural and physical differences. But when senior staff ask her to investigate the new aberrant behavior of their single Human crewmember, she's at a complete loss.
Also up for pre-order and releasing everywhere, all at once, on January 2, 2018, the final installment of the Offbeat Crimes series arc. If you've been following along, this is the one in which all of your questions get answered. No. Not that one. Um, not that one either... This is the one in which the questions I'm willing to answer get answered.
All The World's An Undead Stage
Offbeat Crimes 6
(Gay Paranormal Humor)
Don't forget that Shax and the Brimstone crew launched in French this week, too! Captain Shax will be trying to impress everyone with his French all week, I'm sure.
L'équipée infernale: La Soufrière, T1
More or less, at any rate.
Right now, right this second:
Safety Protocols For Human Holidays is up for pre-order. Release is December 9 as part of MCB's A Holiday To Remember collection this year. Something different this year - a science fiction humor piece that's not Brimstone.
Also right now (!!)
Uncommonly Tidy Poltergeists is in audio! Up on Amazon and Audible now, iTunes link coming in the next couple of days. Narrated by the marvelous (and did we mention patient?) Michael Pauley.
Poltergeists has also just received an Honorable Mention in this year's Rainbow Awards - yay!
Pre-order links goes up for All The World's An Undead Stage next Tuesday! Waaaaagh! The last book in the Offbeat Crimes series (this story arc, at any rate), concerns Erasmus and Carrington, the answers to some burning questions, and undead actors.
By the end of November
I'm determined to get to the end of Pack Up The Moon - Brandywine Investigations 5. It's looking very likely at this point.
