Traveling messes with my sense of time. I'm having trouble keeping track of what day it is and for some reason also woke up thinking it was October. (It's Thursday, Angel, and it is not, in fact October yet.)
Home for a couple of weeks here, then off to GRL (the Gay Romance Literature Retreat) on 10/17. It's in Portsmouth, VA this year and I'm driving. Put a prayer in to the gods of directions for me. I'll do a News Bites with all the info the week before, but if you're Angel stalking, my Where's Angel? page is now updated. Trysts and Burning Embers: Lijun 2, the urban fantasy I'm writing with the amazing, I-have-trouble-keeping-up-with Freddy MacKay is in the second round of edits. Pre-order begins October 9. No nail biting is going on, none at all. *innocent whistling* Semper Fae: Endangered Fae 3 is up for pre-order now and nearly all the links are in, Amazon included. Check those out on the Endangered Fae page here. :) The Dreamspinner Workshop was wonderful and I had a lovely talk with the publisher. But that... I'm gonna have to keep to myself for a bit. Hello from (sometimes) sunny Florida! Today's Reading Day excerpt is from our lovely Jayne Lockwood! This is one particularly dear to me since it's both SF and features an enby character. Euphoria
by Jayne Lockwood Dreamspinner Press Amazon UK Amazon US DSP Publications Barnes & Noble Kobo It might take the arrival of an alien being to remind an isolated man what it means to be human. With a stressful job, his boss breathing down his neck for profitable results, and an estranged wife and daughter, scientist Kurt Lomax doesn’t think life can get much harder. Until a nonbinary extraterrestrial with an otherworldly beauty, captivating elegance, and a wicked sense of humor inconveniently shows up at his apartment. Vardam watched the destruction of their own world, and they don’t want to see the same thing happen on Earth. They are lonely, and feelings soon develop between them and the supposedly straight scientist—feelings Kurt reciprocates, much to his confusion. The arrival of cheery interpreter Tom Soames—whose Goth appearance belies a gentle heart—is like a ray of sunshine in the somber lab. He acts as matchmaker for man and tentacled extraterrestrial, unwittingly instigating a national crisis when the news breaks out. But will a misunderstanding ruin Kurt and Vardam’s chances for happiness together—along with the hope for peace between humanity and the Var? SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS Web page Goodreads QueeRomanceInk Some weeks have a pile up of things to report. Naturally, these happen during weeks when I have to travel. I'll be at the Dreamspinner Workshop from Thursday afternoon to Monday evening recharging my author batteries and learning cool stuff. News on several fronts in the meantime: First round of edits are back with the publisher. We have a lovely new cover and the coming soon link up at Pride! Pre-order begins October 9, with a release date of October 30. Hooray! Up for pre-order now and releasing October 23 - we have more pre-order links coming in now! The rest should be following shortly. Barnes and Noble Kobo
This will be a new one, eventually, I hope. Manuscript finished and submitted - if this first publisher doesn't want it, we'll go from there. Mage is a M/M paranormal about a young man whose hereditary magic is killing him and the grumpy hermit mage he sees as his last hope. There's another possible paranormal series out there as well, but that's only in proposal form and I'm not quite ready to talk about it yet. Off to Orlando! :) We've reached Friday - hooray! And time for me to read you a bit. I may have had too much fun with this one, but who can resist a superhero story? Super For You, Bad For Me by Asta Idonea Dreamspinner Press 14 August 2018 60k/200 pages MM/Fantasy/Superheroes Amazon (US) The Book Depository Barnes and Noble Kobo Struggling actor Oswell Outterridge thinks he’s hit the jackpot when he’s chosen to play a scene opposite his idol, Kane Teague, in a superhero movie. However, things take an unexpected turn when the slime he accidentally ingests gives him telekinetic powers. Then Kane asks him out, against all expectation, and it seems that life couldn't get any better—aside from the little matter of keeping his identity secret from his celebrity boyfriend. Oswell goes from a nobody with little social life and few prospects for the future to dating the man of his dreams and using his superhuman abilities to defend innocents. Everything is perfect, and it seems he’s finally achieved a happily ever after worthy of the silver screen. But when a supervillain arrives, determined to defeat Oswell and win Kane's affections, everything falls apart. In the ensuing conflict, Kane gets caught in the crossfire, and Oswell faces his toughest fight yet. Can he remain the hero he’s always imagined himself, or will a dark desire for vengeance change him forever? Asta Idonea (aka Nicki J. Markus) was born in England but now lives in Adelaide, South Australia. She has loved both reading and writing from a young age and is also a keen linguist, having studied several foreign languages. Asta launched her writing career in 2011 and divides her efforts not only between MM and mainstream works but also between traditional and indie publishing. Her works span the genres, from paranormal to historical and from contemporary to fantasy. It just depends what story and which characters spring into her mind! As a day job, Asta works as a freelance editor and proofreader, and in her spare time she enjoys music, theatre, cinema, photography, and sketching. She also loves history, folklore and mythology, pen-palling, and travel, all of which have provided plenty of inspiration for her writing. (Or you can buy the last edition's paperback on Amazon for $914.79. Sheesh.) Release date is October 23. Yay! Zack Morrison, who has a rather problematic relationship with his old employer (the U.S. Marines) and a not much less problematic one with his new employer (Prince Lugh of the sidhe court) is central to this third Endangered Fae installment. Though don't worry - Diego and Finn have sizable parts to play as well. :) Semper Fae
Endangered Fae 3 Pride Publishing Zack thought he had a strange job before. Working as a Marine medic in a secret government installation was odd, but working as a human liaison to the fae and as the personal assistant to a sidhe prince is downright bizarre. Throw in the fact that he's pretty damn sure he's fallen in love with his boss, and things are close to unmanageable. Of course, around the fae, one never says 'things can't possibly get any worse'. Unexplained events plague the human world. Strange sightings, spontaneous magical explosions, and odd bends in reality crop up. When Finn falls ill and a monstrous creature attacks Zack, things quickly slide into disaster. Lycanthropy, loose-cannon mages, and Lugh conspire to make a hellish mess of things—but the real peril begins when Diego loses an important piece of his mind. Time for some reading! Today's excerpt guests are the amazing team of Bellora Quinn and Sadie Rose Bermingham who've allowed me to read a bit from the newest installment in their Elemental Evidence series, Digging Deeper. I've been enjoying this series myself - paranormal mystery/suspense is a favorite of mine - and I hope you will too! Digging Deeper
Elemental Evidence 4 Bellora Quinn & Sadie Rose Bermingham Pride Publishing Amazon Barnes and Noble Kobo iBooks Unearthing the past brings them closer together…and to danger. A maniac is on the loose in London, drugging young women and assaulting them before burying them in shallow graves. When Inspector John Cordiline asks Jake Chivis for his unique assistance as a Fire Elemental with the Cemetery Rapist case, he feels he can hardly refuse. What begins as a simple job—trying to get memories from a suspect to aid conviction—soon takes a darker turn when one of the victims dies and an offer of help comes from an unexpected and unwelcome source. Dr. Mari Gale is disturbed to find that his former lover Tomas Arregui is London and wants to meet with him. Despite his best efforts to avoid the man, fate seems to be pushing him onto a collision course with Tomas. And the impact will cast him into more trouble than he could ever have imagined. Digging deeper for the truth could be the death of them. Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of non-consensual sex, murder, graphic violence, desecration and description of confined spaces. I know it seems like there's not much going on from the outside right now - but back here in the workshop, I'm doing my best not to drown.
