Thursday News Bites - Mage on Amazon, OC sets, Progress!

It's finally springy here while I type this, which puts me in a hopeful, green frame of mind. There are more daffodils this year, so my separation campaign has worked, though the squirrels seem to have stolen the tulip bulbs again despite the blood meal. Oh well.

In writing news, because you didn't come for a gardening blog:

The Amazon links are here for The Mage on the Hill! Up for pre-order now in all countries that I've checked (UK, Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, Australia, Canada) and releasing May 7.

Pre-order links are available everywhere else as well including, of course, at the publisher. :)

The first box set of Offbeat Crimes stories releases this coming Tuesday at Pride Publishing. That's the first three books in the series for only $4.99. A steal if there ever was one.
  • Lime Gelatin & Other Monsters
  • The Pill Bugs of Time
  • Skim Blood and Savage Verse

The second set is due out April 16.

Chipping away at the current WIP's.

Progress is ongoing for Detonations and Devotions: Lijun 3, in which Tally and Haru just have a lovely life and nothing at all goes wrong. (If you are screaming liar, liar, pants on fire! at this point, you would be correct.)

Also making good progress on the next Brimstone, The Hunt for Red Fluffy. Looks to be about halfway there? I gave up predicting word count for Shax some time ago, though, so let's just say we're at least a third, possibly more.

Thursday News Bites - Angel Answers Questions

2/7/2019

People ask me a lot of questions, but most of them are along the lines of Have you seen my keys? or Where's the cat? so I'll try to stick to questions relevant to current writing work and related items:

  • How's the next Lijun coming?
We're humming along. Should be making serious progress this week.
  • Where's our Brimstone Journals?
Honestly, I had to take a break. I've been writing the Journals for three years now and I don't want them to get tired and stale for you all.
  • Are you going to GRL 2019?
I'll know more after registration. Always a little tricky.
  • Where else might you be this year?
Right now, it's looking like Anime North in May (Toronto), Flamecon in August (Manhattan), and possibly Philcon in November (Cherry Hill, NJ) if I keep an eye on the vendor signup.
  • Where's the Goodreads link for The Mage on the Hill?
I'm so glad you asked. :) The Mage on the Hill
  • Is that your real hair?
Yes. Yes, it is. Such hair that's left these days is all mine. :)

Thursday News Bites - It's Next Year!

1/3/2019

Which is now this year, of course, and time for me to tell you what's on the buffet for the coming months. The calendar list on the home page now shows 2019 - and you may notice there's not a lot on it yet. What the heck, Angel?

This is partly because I've only included things that have an actual or approximate release date so far, and partly because I'm trying so very hard not to over commit myself this year.

We'll see how that goes...

Coming up this month:
  • No Fae Is An Island: Endangered Fae 4 (January 15)
Later in the spring:
  • Detonations and Devotions: Lijun 3 (pre-order May 14)
  • The Hunt for Red Fluffy: Brimstone 5 (no set date yet, all depending on me getting my butt in gear)
In June:
  • The Mage on the Hill: The Web of Arcana 1 (release date not set yet - hoping to have a cover to show you soon :) )

Other things I'm hoping for this year:
  • new edition of Sub Zero
  • start of a new series (paranormal humor - I don't want to say too much yet)
  • launch of at least the first Marionettes in the Mist book (expanded from the serial)

And that's it. That's all I'm saying about this year. Let the words fall where they may!

Thursday News Bites - Edits, Tis The Season

12/13/2018

I'm in that space now where nothing's really due, everything coming up is in edits, and I have room to work on all the things.

You know that means I've been baking and doing everything but starting something new, right?

To be fair, it is the holidays and I do have family obligations, but I can't let this go on too long. There are things to get back to.

So where am I now?
  • Yule Planet is with the editor - biting my nails in anticipation of what's going to come back
  • The Mage on the Hill (a new paranormal, due out from Dreamspinner next June-ish) has gone through the first round of edits, which weren't bad at all
  • The Hunt for Red Fluffy has a few thousand words - I should probably go back to that
  • Detonations and Devotions: Lijun 3 has a start - Freddy needs to get through some life things before we can get rolling again on that

Look for Yule Planet next - coming later this month!

Thursday News Bites - Trysts Next Week!

Almost there! Trysts and Burning Embers: Lijun 2 launches on Tuesday! I'll be in Barbados visiting family, but I'll try to keep on top of release stuff (and send pics :D )

Tally and Haru should have some peace now to work out their relationship, right? Yeah... the world has other ideas.

Also, because I forget to mention it and the November edition just went out - if you'd like to sign up for my newsletter with all the comprehensive updates and things to come, you can find that on the home page or here:

Angel Martinez - Writing News

Picture
Fire. Water. Burn.

In the two months since the All Hallows’ Eve party, Tally has courted Haru, buying expensive gifts, taking the two of them to upscale restaurants and trying to find a balance in earning Haru’s fragile trust while being new parents to the Cohen joeys. Tally sees hope in the new domesticity the family has settled into, despite having some bumps along the way.

Gifts and treats have satisfied Haru’s otter, but the human half remembers the brutal lessons of giving their trust away. How can two lijun who barely know each other anticipate what will happen when times get tough? There are circumstances Tally doesn’t understand yet, and Haru struggles to find their feet with an Urusar who doesn’t know the rules.

A revelation not only throws the tentative relationship between them askew, but also starts Tally and Haru down a path the two of them can’t escape, one so heart-wrenching Haru’s not sure their heart will survive.

Traditionalist concerns that have always nipped at the Bastille clan’s heels come roaring to the forefront with demands and ultimatums. Tally needs to fall in line or face further threats to his otter, his family and his clan. Haru needs to find the strength to believe in the good despite the bad. In an environment where it’s vital to know ally from foe, Tally and Haru need to stand united or watch the community Tally’s family has built fall under the thumb of heartless, greedy autocrats.

Come for the Lijun, stay for the fun questions at the end!

The episode will be available on Friday at:
http://www.wrotepodcast.com/

Or you can find the WROTE podcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, iHeart Radio, Spotify, Stitcher and TuneIn.

In conjunction with the interview, please look for a reading of a Trysts excerpt right here tomorrow!

Thursday News Bites - It's Raining News (Hallelujah?)

9/20/2018

Some weeks have a pile up of things to report. Naturally, these happen during weeks when I have to travel. I'll be at the Dreamspinner Workshop from Thursday afternoon to Monday evening recharging my author batteries and learning cool stuff.

News on several fronts in the meantime:

  • Trysts and Burning Embers: Lijun 2
First round of edits are back with the publisher. We have a lovely new cover and the coming soon link up at Pride! Pre-order begins October 9, with a release date of October 30.  Hooray!
Picture

  • Semper Fae: Endangered Fae 3

Up for pre-order now and releasing October 23 - we have more pre-order links coming in now! The rest should be following shortly.

Barnes and Noble
Kobo
Picture

  • The Mage On the Hill (Arcana)

This will be a new one, eventually, I hope. Manuscript finished and submitted - if this first publisher doesn't want it, we'll go from there. Mage is a M/M paranormal about a young man whose hereditary magic is killing him and the grumpy hermit mage he sees as his last hope.

There's another possible paranormal series out there as well, but that's only in proposal form and I'm not quite ready to talk about it yet.

Off to Orlando! :)

Thursday News Bites - It's A Good Thing I Can Swim

I know it seems like there's not much going on from the outside right now - but back here in the workshop, I'm doing my best not to drown.

Some things happening now that might be of interest:
  • Edits have begun on Trysts and Burning Embers: Lijun 2. We're trying not to break our new editor. This one goes up for pre-order October 9. Should have a cover for you soon, here. :)
  • My desperate attempt to complete The Mage on the Hill before the DSP conference might actually happen. 31K and climbing. (This is a paranormal story that might some day be a series that I had to shelve last year.)
  • Semper Fae: Endangered Fae 3 goes up for pre-order next week - September 11. Release date is October 23 for that one.
Always more in the works!

This book is where things get all fae-stravaganza and fae-complicated. :D

Thing the second and third! Fireworks and Stolen Kisses is out in Paperback now on Amazon as well. For those readers who must have a physical copy, come snag one!
