It's here! Jackalopes & Woofen-Poofs is available now at Pride Publishing's website for early download. If you have a favorite distributor that isn't Pride Publishing, the book is up for pre-order all of those places but you'll have to wait until October 3 - not so long now! I'm taking a short break from novel writing and working on a holiday short story for Mischief Corner Book's A Holiday To Remember collection for this year. Yes, it will be SF and it will be (probably) a standalone story. It will also be a F/F story since MCB is accepting all queer pairings this year - yay! And that's all I'm telling you. Ha.  Something unusual (for me) happened this week. A publisher offered me a contract on an unfinished story. I've certainly made promises to publishers before, but Pride has enough confidence in me that we've signed a contract on All The World's An Undead Stage (Offbeat Crimes #6) on the merits of the first chapter. I am pleased and humbled... And slightly terrified. :o This is a deadline I must not, cannot miss. Ahem. Hoax animals and a consulting vampire on the prowl-ACO Jason Shen never thought having a cop boyfriend would be this hard. All Animal Control Officer Jason Shen ever wanted was a quiet life of rescuing lost kittens and helping animals in need. Having a paranormal cop boyfriend guarantees an end to the quiet part. What at first seems a random encounter with jackalopes in the park might be more than chance and when State Paranormal sends a handsome, charming vampire to consult with the Seventy-Seventh, he finds his relationship with Alex on shaky ground. Officer Alex Wolf hoped his humaning skills were improving but now he can’t unravel the strange politics at State Paranormal or why Jason’s family seems to hate him. There’s no time to puzzle things out either. Bizarre animals are loose in the city, Jason’s acting strange, and is the vampire captain from State flirting with him? Wolf’s going to have to keep his head in the game if he’s going to have any chance of putting the pieces together and keeping the city safe from the strange critters terrorizing its streets. The news this week is all Offbeat Crimes related. I did agree to this publication schedule for the series. Everyone please keep reminding me of that. :D Skim Blood and Savage Verse is out in the wild - released in all the usual places! Carrington's had some lovely reviews so far, with the most common theme being - it wasn't enough! He'll be back. Never fear. Linky stuff below for his first story. Also (!) Feral Dust Bunnies (OC #4) is with the editor - my new editor! Offbeat Crimes #4 is scheduled to go up for preorder May 9 and I do have a blurb for you: Officer Alex Wolf responds to a lot of “paranormal” calls that aren’t. Exotic pet birds aren’t monsters and unusual dog breeds aren’t aliens. It’s a good thing he likes the animal control officers, but he both yearns for and dreads those calls where he runs into ACO Jason Shen. Jason’s scent is so delicious that Wolf has a difficult time humaning around him. Animal control calls take a disturbing turn, though, when Wolf and his lizard-man partner, Krisk discover the impossibly mummified bodies of rats and an unfortunate mother cat. The rescue of the cat’s sole surviving kitten not only gives Wolf more time with Jason, which is both perplexing and wonderful, but also leads to dangerous discoveries. Something inconceivable stalks the city and its officers of the law. Wolf has to figure out what it is before it can attack and drain the life from the people and the kitten he loves. Last but not least, I've started the skeletal plotting on OC #5 which has the working title, Drop Bears and Snipe Hunts. We'll see how that goes...  Skim Blood and Savage Verse

In personal news, my spring garden has been pretty much smooshed by our late season ice storm. It started out as just heavy, wet snow, but turned into clingy ice by sunrise. We've lost half of our tallest pine and the pine branches have done a lot of damage to other plants in their falling. I'm hoping that's the last gasp so the snow will clear and we can see how bad it really is. You can sort of see the mess in this pic:  My stint as Author of the Month continues over at My Fiction Nook today with the focus on Offbeat Crimes - yaaaay! Plus a personal story from me - one I've told before but I feel it's relevant now. Skim Blood and Savage Verse is included in the rundown - though for an excerpt, go to the Pride Publishing page. Anyone who's been with me a bit knows I struggle badly at the beginning of writing a story and it gathers momentum like an avalanche of doom as I progress. Should hit about the halfway point before the end of the week. :)
