I think I might just have to call this the year of Offbeat Crimes. Until all six are done, I'm not sure I'll get anything else out there. Ha. We'll see. To recap. we now have three Offbeat Crimes stories out in the wild - paranormal humor about an unusual police department. In order:Preorders begin for book 4 - Feral Dust Bunnies - on May 9. Wolf and kitten are waiting on deck impatiently.
Book 5 now has a start. Only about 2k so far but hey, progress. The big news with 5 is that the title has changed. I wasn't happy with the first title, so talked it over with my editor and Nicki helped me pick a new one. Jackelopes & Woofen-Poofs See the nice pattern there? ;) The first three are available over at Pride Publishing or any of the usual nice e-book retailers (Kobo, Amazon, etc. etc.) Welcome to the second in our series of guest story reads! Today we have a bit from Angel's Feather, a gay science fiction novella from Alina Popescu. :) ![]() Angel's Feather by Alina Popescu How far would you go for the one you love? How much of yourself would you sacrifice? Trapped on a decaying Earth and cut off from the rest of the Universe, humans are no longer allowed to leave their planet. Break this one law and you die: a penalty enforced by flyers, aliens who look like angels of long-lost religions. Michael, the flyers’ leader, is the Punisher who carries out every public execution. Adam, a young human with near-perfect memory, is committed to rebuilding Earth and a true believer in the flyers’ dominion. While Adam’s support for flyers isn’t a secret, his deep love for Michael is. Not even Michael knows, for his kind never take human lovers, and to Adam, they are too far above him to reach. In his broken and unwelcoming world, Adam’s love can only lead to pain, loss, and disaster. Yet there is no force in the huge expanse of stars and galaxies that can stop Adam from following Michael to the end of existence. Not even Adam’s own beliefs. The cohorts and I are closing in on the end of our Marionettes in the Mist serial project - the chapters are all written, we're just in the final weeks of posting them for you. The adventures of Nootau, Tibo, Ashe, Mal and their various love interests and allies will come to an end on the blog, but the next step will be expanding the story and editing it for novel format. Um. About that. We may have written a little more than we thought we would. Our original estimate was that we'd end up with one large novel of about 140K words. Yeah. No. There will be three substantial volumes, the final word count not something we want to predict right now. Marionettes in the Mist (A Dark Spaces Universe story) appears Mondays and Thursdays on the Mischief Corner Books blog and is written by Freddy MacKay, J. Scott Coatsworth, Toni Griffin and yours truly. Mila May has been doing an amazing job with character art for the story as well - a few more to come but here's who we have so far. :) Happy Friday and happy wishes for the holiday weekend (whether you celebrate or just have a day off!) I have a guest reading today - a gay psychic/paranormal from Encompass Ink, Serpent's Kiss. And you get to hear me try to pronounce the impossible ;) ![]() Serpent's Kiss by Layla Dorine Amazon Barnes and Noble While searching for their missing sibling, Zaiden and his sister Kaandhal, come across the last pureblooded psy-clairvoyant of their kind. Unfortunately for them, the psy-clairvoyant Darian has no idea who he truly is and isn’t interested in learning, much less helping Zaiden and Kaandhal locate their missing brother, Zxex. A bounty hunter by trade, who’s been all but banished from his family due to his visions, Darian is a bit cynical about his ability to be of any assistance to them. Nevertheless, Zaiden brings him back to their home Rhumba, where Darian discovers that very little is what it seems. With plots unfolding all around them and discoveries about his own heritage leaving Darian reeling, he is left with the choice of whether to embrace who and what he is, or spend every moment with them as a prisoner on the fringes of their society. Add in a pesky little bond that only seems to grow the more time he and Zaiden spend together, and several factions looking to gain possession of him and Darian is left wondering if his visions just might be the least of his troubles. Feral Dust Bunnies (Offbeat Crimes 4) has a cover! If you haven't seen it yet, here you go! Wolf's story (and his kitten's) will go up for pre-order May 9, with the general release on June 20. There will, since someone asked recently, be a full set of six Offbeat Crimes stories before the end of the year. In other news, there's now a Newsletter (I know, drag me into the 21st century kicking and screaming, why don't you) that you can sign up for if you prefer that as a method of getting new release info and such. Angel Martinez - Writing News Also - Bellora and I will be in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida for the week of July 2 for a mini writing retreat in case anyone's down that way. We'll also have the lovely Sadie Rose Birmingham with us and plan to hook up with a couple of folks in the area. :)
This one's a couple of years old now but I like revisiting Rafi from time to time. :) In case you're interested, here's the link to the entire list of Rafael's rules for How To Safely Navigate Vampirism. The Line
Rafael Schiller, vampire and sexual god without peer, believes himself the top of the food chain, until a bizarre creature feeding in an alley scares the deathless hell out of him. Available as a standalone or in the 50's MIxed Tape Anthology The news this week is all Offbeat Crimes related. I did agree to this publication schedule for the series. Everyone please keep reminding me of that. :D Skim Blood and Savage Verse is out in the wild - released in all the usual places! Carrington's had some lovely reviews so far, with the most common theme being - it wasn't enough! He'll be back. Never fear. Linky stuff below for his first story. Also (!) Feral Dust Bunnies (OC #4) is with the editor - my new editor! Offbeat Crimes #4 is scheduled to go up for preorder May 9 and I do have a blurb for you: Officer Alex Wolf responds to a lot of “paranormal” calls that aren’t. Exotic pet birds aren’t monsters and unusual dog breeds aren’t aliens. It’s a good thing he likes the animal control officers, but he both yearns for and dreads those calls where he runs into ACO Jason Shen. Jason’s scent is so delicious that Wolf has a difficult time humaning around him. Animal control calls take a disturbing turn, though, when Wolf and his lizard-man partner, Krisk discover the impossibly mummified bodies of rats and an unfortunate mother cat. The rescue of the cat’s sole surviving kitten not only gives Wolf more time with Jason, which is both perplexing and wonderful, but also leads to dangerous discoveries. Something inconceivable stalks the city and its officers of the law. Wolf has to figure out what it is before it can attack and drain the life from the people and the kitten he loves. Last but not least, I've started the skeletal plotting on OC #5 which has the working title, Drop Bears and Snipe Hunts. We'll see how that goes... ![]() Skim Blood and Savage Verse Offbeat Crimes 3 Out now wherever the best ebooks are sold ;) Pride Publishing Amazon Barnes and Noble Kobo iBooks |
