The Hunter's Gambit
Archanium Codex 1 by Nicholas McIntire Black Dove Press Amazon US Barnes & Noble Google Play Aleksei Drago never expected an easy life, but he never expected what he got. Growing up amongst the Ri-Vhan of Seil Wood, losing his mother and just as suddenly being torn from the forest folk, Aleksei had no choice but to make the best of the unpredictable path in life. But what happens when the monsters and figures of fiction become horrifyingly real? Can Aleksei find the right path? When his life and the lives of his family and friends are at stake will he fight, reforging himself into the man Prophecy demands he become? In a world of magic and Magi, of Angels and Demons alike, how will a simple farm boy survive his own contorted destiny? This is the story of Aleksei Drago, farmer, Hunter, and so much more.

Where are we now? Briefly, the rewrites are done after content edits. So far, we're still on track for 11/17 for By Imperial Decree. Um, my 30K novella is now 38K, but that's not as huge a jump as some rewrites have been this year (*cough* A Fine Mess *cough*.) Sooooon.... Also, I'll be doing a Facebook Live Ask Me Anything hour on Sunday, November 1. 1 pm EST, my FB group. It's a public group, so I think anyone can come? https://www.facebook.com/groups/angelmartinez/ Come chat with me! :D Happy Friday, everyone! This week I'm reading to you from another appropriate book for spooky season - Warren Rochelle's The Werewolf and His Boy! Magic, secrets, werewolves, witches, scary monster-type beings, all perfect for October. Come have a listen. :D The Werewolf and His Boy
by Warren Rochelle JMS Books Amazon Kobo Barnes and Noble Henry Thorn has worked at Larkin's since graduating high school. He likes it -- especially when he can use his secret skill of hiding inside shadows so his boss can't find them. Without that talent, he would never had survived growing up different. When a hire enters the store, Henry's other latent talent kicks in. He can smell an emotional response even before he lays eyes on the redhead. Jamey Currey came out, and his conservative parents promptly kicked him out. He, too, is different -- he senses Henry's attraction the moment they met. The first time they kiss, torrential rains fall from skies split by lightning. Their kiss also awakens the Watchers, diabolical hunters who will stop at nothing -- even extermination -- to keep magic suppressed. With the help of a friendly coven of friendly witches, the boys embark on a quest to discover an ancient key to restoring magic to the world, and to understand mysteries of their own hearts. The question is, will this quest cost them their lives? Ack! Where has October gone? Quick updates first:
Friday, 10/23, I have a slot in this year's Virtual GRL to chatter live at anyone who might be interested.
Happy Friday, Everyone! This week we have an audio excerpt from J. Scott Coatsworth's Skythane, just re-released to KU! A planet in peril and lots of secrets! :D Come have a listen: Skythane
Oberon Cycle 1 by J. Scott Coatsworth Amazon Kindle Unlimited Jameson Havercamp, a psych from a conservative religious colony, has come to Oberon—unique among the Common Worlds—in search of a rare substance called pith. He’s guided through the wilds on his quest by Xander Kinnison, a handsome, cocky wing man with a troubled past. Neither knows that Oberon is facing imminent destruction. Even as the world starts to fall apart around them, they have no idea what’s coming—or the bond that will develop between them as they race to avert a cataclysm. Together, they will journey to uncover the secrets of this strange and singular world, even as it takes them beyond the bounds of reality itself to discover what truly binds them together. Hello, Friday People! This week's reading is from my upcoming ESTO novella, By Imperial Decree. Come have a listen, I babble a bit beforehand. ;) By Imperial Decree
An ESTO Universe Novella An Imperial prince can only hide for so long—but his solution of a hastily invented engagement could backfire spectacularly. Marsh Kensinger's work as the utility mechanic for Bremen Station keeps his life interesting - but never quite as interesting as finding a pilot still hidden inside a hibernation drawer in what should have been a salvage craft. He knows he shouldn't get involved, but the Altairian Imperial crest on the private craft and the semi-conscious pilot's odd questions pique his always-whirling curiosity. Still unattached at a concerning age for an imperial son, Prince Shiro Shinohara hadn't been running from the endless, mind-numbing rounds of omiai his mother, the Empress, had mandated. Not exactly. He'd just wanted a break from persistent suitors at the family retreat on Ceti Tau. The short respite becomes a panicked flight for his life when one of the suitors stalking him attacks the family compound. Worried for the soldiers he was forced to leave behind, afraid there's a conspiracy to kidnap him, Shiro confides in the handsome mechanic who found him and in a moment of panic, concocts the fiction of a serious relationship with Marsh. It's only until Shiro's people can reach him and he can press charges back home. Marsh is willing to play along and Shiro's just going to have to keep himself together and not, under any circumstances, fall for the wonderful, generous man who refuses to stop helping him. Genre: Gay Romance, Science Fiction, Suspense, Novella Some snips and snails about Where Things Are: Is being picked apar-- um, looked over by the content editor. Currently around 31K, final word count still to come. If you'd like to see the blurb and stuff, that's up at the publisher.
It's a simple old story--princess, dragon, knight--simple unless they're all the same person.
Laila should be finishing Safety Protocols for Human Holidays a little before schedule. So looking forward to having that out there for you! Happy Friday, everyone! It's October! Which means it's spooky season for all of us spooky people - and today's excerpt just couldn't be more perfect. Ghost hunting vlogger. Skeptical new assistant who is about to become a whole lot less skeptical. :D Come have a listen to an excerpt from Alex Silver's Dan's Hauntastic Haunts Investigates: Goodman Dairy! (There are 3 Hauntastic books - this is #1) Dan's Hauntastic Haunts Investigates: Goodman Dairy by Alex Silver Amazon: Kindle Unlimited Amazon Paperback When ghosts reach across the veil, Daniel Collins is there to tell their stories. Dan is a vlogging ghost hunter. He has devoted his life to documenting paranormal activity. In his converted van, he travels around the country exploring haunted sites. He loves the thrill of filming restless spirits. Chad Brewer, skeptic, works for an insurance company. He doesn’t believe in ghosts, but watching Dan’s vlog is his guilty pleasure. The cute vlogger is accident prone. He has Chad’s work extension on speed-dial. The two talk whenever Dan gets hurt during an investigation, a frequent occurrence. When Chad loses his job for approving too many claims, Dan offers him a position as his personal assistant. The pair sets out to investigate a haunted dairy barn for the vlog’s next video series. The catch is that they must live and work together in Dan’s tiny traveling home. As the paranormal activity at the haunted dairy ramps up, so does the romantic tension between the two men. Can the love between a skeptic and a social media sensation conquer a vengeful ghost? Dan's Hauntastic Haunts is a paranormal MM romance between a gay vlogger and his trans personal assistant. Buckle up for a hauntastic good time. About Alex:
Alex Silver (he/him) grew up mostly in Northern Maine and is currently living in Canada with a spouse, two kids, and three birds. Alex is a trans guy who started writing fiction as a child and never stopped. The calendar is booked out for quite a while. (2023? Something like that.) My editor has the whole list, but I find it's best to concentrate on the things in front of me so I don't run screaming into the void. So what's in front of me? Three things: By Imperial Decree (an ESTO story) This will be one of the shorter ESTO works, probably under 30K, about parts of the galaxy we haven't visited yet: a mechanic on a Galactic Hansa station and the Altairian prince who sort of falls into his lap.
The Anti-Quest Slated as this year's lesbian science fiction humor holiday story. I'll be getting started with the actual writing as soon as Imperial Decree is finished. Snillek inherits her estranged mother's royal throne, much to her dismay. There are secrets. There is a serious misunderstanding. Shenanigans ensue. (No, that's not the real blurb. Editor would never speak to me again.) Geoffrey the Very Strange (part of the Magic Emporium collection coming out next year)
It's all the fault of the folks at Queer Sci Fi. Honestly, I can't remember how it came up, but I'd made an offhand remark about an theoretical necromancer named Geoffrey the Very Strange who proposed the use of seashells instead of blood magic. Um. Yes. Shenanigans ensue. There are notes and a general plan. This one's due out sometime in March of 2021. |
