Friday is here once more! This week I'm reading a bit for you from the start of The Mage on the Hill. I know some folks are curious - so here's an appetizer :) The Mage on the Hill
Web of Arcana 1 Coming May 7 - up for preorder: Amazon Dreamspinner Barnes and Noble Kobo iBooks Toby’s wild magic is killing him. The mage guilds have given up on him, and it’s only a matter of time before he dies in a spectacular, catastrophic bang. His only hope is an exiled wizard who lives in seclusion—and is rumored to have lost his mind. The years alone on his hilltop estate have not been good for Darius Valstad. After the magical accident that disfigured him and nearly drowned Pittsburgh, he drifts through his days, a wraith trapped in memories and depression. Until a stricken young man collapses on his driveway, one who claims Darius is his last chance. For the first time in fifteen years, Darius must make a choice—leave this wild mage to his fate or take him in and try to teach him, which may kill them both. The old Darius, brash and commanding, wouldn’t have hesitated. Darius the exile isn’t sure he can find the energy to try.

Couple of quick things this week: 1. The Hunt for Red Fluffy (Brimstone 5) is about 3/4's complete. Possibly a little more. I'm hoping to have a draft for beta next week. Fingers crossed. 2. Mischief Corner Books will definitely be at Flame Con this year and I'll be there with them :D If you're in the NYC area August 17-18, stop by and see us in the vendor hall!
Happy Friday, everyone! Today's reading is from J.P. Kenwood's series, Dominus and its third book Blood Before Wine. All you historical fiction fans, this is for you! :) Blood Before Wine
Dominus 3 by J.P. Kenwood Amazon (KU) Conquer. Own. Sacrifice everything. Gaius Fabius knows a healthy son will secure his claim to the throne of Rome, but his devotion to his illegal Dacian pleasure slave, Allerix, could destroy his dreams of supreme power. Determined to solve the mysterious murder of a dear friend, Gaius searches for clues hidden deep in the palace that threaten his future and his family. But while he and Allerix share passions in and out of the bedchamber, another assassination sends Gaius and his captured prince back to the vanquished kingdom of Dacia. In order to protect his beloved concubine, can Gaius find the courage to sacrifice his own heart? Lose. Submit. Betray everyone. Allerix knows vengeance for the vicious destruction of his homeland is within tantalizing reach, but only if he can convince his Roman master to trust him. When an unexpected ally interrupts his plans, Alle sets aside his lust for revenge to embrace the ecstasy of Gaius’s unbridled devotion. But a surprise reunion with a childhood friend and an unforeseen return trip to Dacia remind Allerix of all he has lost while revealing the honor and glory that remain to be won. To earn the respect of his surviving kinsmen, can Alle betray the only man he has ever loved? Dominus is a plot-packed m/m historical fantasy set in ancient Rome during the reign of Trajan (AD 98-117). Blood Before Wine is the third book in this four-book alternative history saga—a tumultuous adventure of forbidden love, humor, friendship, political intrigue, deception, and murder. For The Mage on the Hill, that is. I'll be doing the rounds at some of the blogs, but I also want to offer a limited number of reader ARC's in a couple of weeks. A couple of things:
We're about six weeks out and I'm starting to get super nervous. *bites nails* If you want to wait for your official copy on release day (or if you don't get an ARC) the pre-order links are everywhere :) Amazon Dreamspinner Barnes and Noble Kobo iBooks Also, the first Brimstone Journals collection has launched in French :D Les Registres de La Soufrière 1 Amazon La Soufrière : vaisseau de transport, centre de commandes de contrebande et de mercantilisme. Happy Friday, everyone! Today's excerpt is part of a shared universe anthology that looks really exciting - Love Shines Through: A Fractured World Anthology, and our story is a M/NB SF from the lovely Siri Paulson. Hooray! :) Love Shines Through: A Fractured World Anthology With stories by Kit Campbell, Siri Paulson, KD Sarge, and Erin Zarro Genre: LGBTQ fantasy romance anthology. Pairings include two F/F, one M/NB, and one M/F. From Turtleduck Press The world was whole before the war. But war is a terrible thing, and terrible things are done in the name of defense and protection. And this war tore the world apart, fractured it, separated families and lives and dreams. The reasons why no longer matter, but the effects still linger. They cause pain, though the war is over. But despite the monsters and the poisons and the despair, there is a glimmer of light. And hope and love are not gone from the world. These four stories, set in the Fractured World, explore how light can make it through the darkness. How hope can conquer fear. And most of all, how love can still flourish, even when the world is bleak. A young woman braves monsters to see the sky. A reluctant man chooses forgiveness over suffering. Lovers reunite to save a child and their community. Best friends risk everything for each other. Come see the light for yourselves. Siri Paulson loves nothing more than mixing up genres to see what will happen. She also wears the hats of non-fiction editor by day and chief editor of Turtleduck Press by night. Her other passion is contra (folk) dancing. Thankfully, her long-suffering husband is good at keeping himself occupied. After growing up in Alberta, Canada, she moved to Toronto and achieved her lifelong dream of buying an old house, dubbed the TARDIS because it's bigger on the inside. Other lifelong dreams include publishing novels (one and counting), travelling the world (so far, so good), and becoming an astronaut (still waiting on that one). Siri's debut fantasy novel is set in the same world as Love Shines Through, several hundred years later. City of Hope and Ruin, co-written with Kit Campbell, was published in 2016 and is available at http://turtleduckpress.com/wordpress/2016/05/09/city-of-hope-and-ruin/. Her short SF&F fiction has been published in the 2017 "A Holiday to Remember" collection from Mischief Corner Books (https://www.mischiefcornerbooks.com/a-new-year-on-vega-iii.html), in Queer Sci Fi's flash fiction anthology Renewal (https://queerscifi.com/announcement-renewal-qsfs-flash-fiction-anthology/), and on Daily Science Fiction. More short fiction and the anthologies she has edited can be found on her Turtleduck Press bio, at http://turtleduckpress.com/wordpress/2010/11/30/who-is-siri-paulson/. She can be found occasionally blogging at https://siripaulson.wordpress.com/ and dabbling in photography at http://www.instagram.com/siripaulson/. It's finally springy here while I type this, which puts me in a hopeful, green frame of mind. There are more daffodils this year, so my separation campaign has worked, though the squirrels seem to have stolen the tulip bulbs again despite the blood meal. Oh well. In writing news, because you didn't come for a gardening blog: The Amazon links are here for The Mage on the Hill! Up for pre-order now in all countries that I've checked (UK, Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, Australia, Canada) and releasing May 7. Pre-order links are available everywhere else as well including, of course, at the publisher. :) Amazon Dreamspinner Barnes and Noble Kobo iBooks The first box set of Offbeat Crimes stories releases this coming Tuesday at Pride Publishing. That's the first three books in the series for only $4.99. A steal if there ever was one.
The second set is due out April 16. Chipping away at the current WIP's.
Progress is ongoing for Detonations and Devotions: Lijun 3, in which Tally and Haru just have a lovely life and nothing at all goes wrong. (If you are screaming liar, liar, pants on fire! at this point, you would be correct.) Also making good progress on the next Brimstone, The Hunt for Red Fluffy. Looks to be about halfway there? I gave up predicting word count for Shax some time ago, though, so let's just say we're at least a third, possibly more. Happy Friday, all! Today's reading is a little different. I explain in the audio. ;)
(Author's note: If you don't do well with horror, skip this one. You won't hurt my feelings.) I don't have much to share this week, but I did want to mention that the second Offbeat Crimes box set releases April 16. (So Box Set #1 this month, on March 19th and Box set #2 next month - yay!)
Pride Publishing Happy Friday, everyone! This week's reading excerpt is #3 in EJ Russell's Supernatural Selection series! (Crossover alert! :D ) Demon on the Down-low
Supernatural Sel;ections 3 by EJ Russell After decades of unrequited love, this kangaroo will jump at the chance for a date. Any date. Lovelorn kangaroo shifter Hamish Mulherne, drummer for the mega-hit rock band Hunter’s Moon, waited years for the band’s jaguar shifter bassist to notice him. Instead, she’s just gotten married and is in a thriving poly relationship. How is Hamish supposed to compete with that? But with everyone else in the band mated and revoltingly happy, he needs somebody. Since he can’t expect true love to strike twice, he signs up with Supernatural Selection. Because what the hell. When Zeke Oz was placed at Supernatural Selection through the Sheol work-release program, he thought he was the luckiest demon alive. But when he seems responsible for several massive matchmaking errors, he’s put on notice: find the perfect match for Hamish, or get booted back to Sheol for good. The only catch? He has to do it without the agency’s matchmaking spells, and Hamish simply will not engage. But Zeke starts to believe that the reason all of Hamish’s dates fizzle is because nobody in the database is good enough for him. And Hamish realizes that his perfect match might be the cute demon who’s trying so hard to make him happy. Russell—grace, mother of three, recovering actor—holds a BA and an MFA in theater, so naturally she’s spent the last three decades as a financial manager, database designer, and business intelligence consultant (as one does). She’s recently abandoned data wrangling, however, and spends her days wrestling words. Her paranormal romantic comedy, The Druid Next Door, was a 2018 RITA® finalist and the winner of the 2017 Rainbow Award for Best Gay Fantasy Romance. E.J. is married to Curmudgeonly Husband, a man who cares even less about sports than she does.
