Happy Friday, everyone! We finally have some blue skies here today and I have an excerpt with lovely blue skies in it to read to you from Under the Radar, a M/M historical from Lillian Francis. Come have a listen! Under the Radar
By Lillian Francis It’s 1942 and after a sexual indiscretion, US Navy pilot Zachary MacKenzie is sent to serve in the Royal Navy’s submarine service—a shockingly harsh punishment for a man who loves to fly. The submarine is oppressive and frustrating for him, and he’s marked out from his peers, publicly by being American, and privately by his attraction to men. The only bright spot is the company of his steward, sonar operator Gethin Llewelyn. Despite the differences of rank and background, they’re drawn to each other. Gethin’s integrity complements Zach’s casual joie de vivre, and soon the friendship develops into something much more. As the threats of war increase, the submarine is plagued by potentially hostile vessels, and circumstances lead them to suspect there’s a spy amongst their own crew. Being forced even closer together as they work for the greater good reveals a new awareness, and Zach doesn’t know what is in more danger, the vessel under his charge or his heart. About the Author Lillian Francis is a self-confessed geek who likes nothing more than settling down with a comic or a good book, except maybe writing. Given a notepad, pen, her Kindle, and an infinite supply of chocolate Hob Nobs and she can lose herself for weeks. Romance was never her reading matter of choice, so it came as a great surprise to all concerned, including herself, to discover a romance was exactly what she’d written, and not the rollicking spy adventure or cosy murder mystery she always assumed she’d write. http://lillianfrancis.blogspot.co.uk/ Twitter @LillianFrancis_ Facebook Author Page Lillian’s Lovefest – FB group BookBub Goodreads Sign up for my newsletter Email: [email protected] The blog tour is still ongoing including posts about pie, caring for your introvert, author alignments, music for Darius and an interview with Scattered Thoughts. Also, giveaways. Check out my FB group for all the links and stuff. In addition, it's time to start getting ready for Yaoi/Yuri North in Toronto next week. Come over and say hi to me and the Mischief Corner crew if you're in the area!
Yaoi/Yuri North is part of Anime North, but you don't have to brave the big convention center to see us. All of the LGBTQ content and vendors will be at the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel. Panels and events fun from 5pm on Friday, May 24 to 5pm on Sunday, May 26, though we'll be set up earlier on Friday if you want to stop by. :) It's Friday! And time for me to read to you. :D Today's excerpt is from Kaje Harper's backlist, the first of her Hidden Wolves series. Come have a listen! Unacceptable Risk
Hidden Wolves 1 by Kaje Harper Simon Conley was born a werewolf, making him one of a tiny minority in a sea of vanilla humans. The safety of the pack lies in absolute secrecy, sometimes violently enforced. In a species where pack-members are born and not made, being gay is considered a perversion. So when Simon falls in love with a human man, he's twice damned. Even his Alpha's grudging tolerance may not be enough to shield him from the hatred of the other top wolves. Then his lover Paul stumbles across pack secrets Simon was sworn to keep, and if the pack finds out, they may both end up dead. It's not something exotic, though. “Kaje” is pronounced just like “cage” – it’s an old nickname. I’ve been writing far longer than I care to admit (*whispers – forty years*), mostly for my own entertainment, usually M/M romance (with added mystery, fantasy, historical, SciFi…) I also have Young Adult short stories (some released under the pen name Kira Harp.) It was my husband who finally convinced me that after all the years of writing just for fun, I really should submit something, somewhere. My first professionally published book, Life Lessons, came out from MLR Press in May 2011. I now have a good-sized backlist in ebooks and print, both free and professionally published, including Amazon bestseller The Rebuilding Year and Rainbow Award Best Mystery-Thriller Tracefinder: Contact. A complete list with links can be found on my website "Books" page at https://kajeharper.wordpress.com/books/. Probably not a shock that the next couple of weeks are pretty much all Mage on the Hill, all the time. Just in case you'd like to visit some of the blog stops this week, here's where they are and the topic covered. :D May 7 - Love Bytes : a blog about writing for my mom
May 8 - Long and Short Reviews : one about five things I wished I'd known before trying to get published May 9 - Happily Ever Chapter FB Page : a very short bit about the Valstad house May 10 - My Fiction Nook : a little bit about magical systems The blog posts go into full swing next week, so lots more to come! :) Hello, hello! Happy May Friday! This week, I have a reading from E.J. Russell's paranormal, Stumptown Spirits: Legend Tripping 1. CW: For our more sensitive listeners, there is violence afoot here and this does get a little dark. Stumptown Spirits (Legend Tripping #1)
by E.J. Russell Amazon Other Retailers Publisher What price would you pay to rescue a friend from hell? For Logan Conner, the answer is almost anything. Guilt-ridden over trapping his college roommate in a ghost war rooted in Portland’s pioneer past, Logan has spent years searching for a solution. Then his new boyfriend, folklorist Riley Morrel, inadvertently gives him the key. Determined to pay his debt—and keep Riley safe—Logan abandons Riley and returns to Portland, prepared to give up his freedom and his future to make things right. Crushed by Logan’s betrayal, Riley drops out of school and takes a job on a lackluster paranormal investigation show. When the crew arrives in Portland to film an episode about a local legend of feuding ghosts, he stumbles across Logan working at a local bar, and learns the truth about Logan’s plan. Their destinies once more intertwined, the two men attempt to reforge their relationship while dodging a narcissistic TV personality, a craven ex-ghost, and a curmudgeonly bar owner with a hidden agenda. But Logan’s date with destiny is looming, and his life might not be the only one at stake. About E.J. E.J. Russell—grace, mother of three, recovering actor—holds a BA and an MFA in theater, so naturally she’s spent the last three decades as a financial manager, database designer, and business intelligence consultant (as one does). She’s recently abandoned data wrangling, however, and spends her days wrestling words. Her paranormal romantic comedy, The Druid Next Door, was a 2018 RITA® finalist and the winner of the 2017 Rainbow Award for Best Gay Fantasy Romance. E.J. is married to Curmudgeonly Husband, a man who cares even less about sports than she does. Luckily, CH loves to cook, or all three of their children (Lovely Daughter and Darling Sons A and B) would have survived on nothing but Cheerios, beef jerky, and satsuma mandarins (the extent of E.J.’s culinary skill set). E.J. lives in rural Oregon, enjoys visits from her wonderful adult children, and indulges in good books, red wine, and the occasional hyperbole.
