Happy Friday, everyone! I know I usually read to you, but today I'm just talking. (yak yak yak) Everything you need to know about Brimstone, but didn't know you needed. ;)

Hi all! Today I get to read two complete stories for you since they're both flash fiction pieces from Jeff Baker. These are fun! :D Notes from Jeff on "Dusk at Marsden Tower" “Dusk at Marsden Towers” was written for a picture prompt on the Friday Flash Fics Facebook page where we write a flash fiction piece based on the picture. I wrote this one around Christmas based partly on an idea from the great British ghost story writer M. R. James (who wrote his stories to read to friends at Christmastime) about a face or mask that appears at a window. A story James never got around to writing, he mentioned the idea in an essay called “Stories I Have Tried to Write.” After my story was published, someone commented it reminded them of Charles Dickens’ spooky stories set in rooms at inns. In contrast to the spookiness, I wrote most of this while my husband and I were watching “It’s a Wonderful Life!” Notes from Jeff on "Camera Obscura" “Camera Obscura” is one of about twelve stories I’ve written influenced by Sci-fi/fantasy stories told in bars, such as “Tales From the White Hart” by Arthur C. Clarke, who was gay but didn’t write about it. I started writing stories set in Demeter’s Bar, a fictional gay bar in my hometown of Wichita, Kansas, and have actually published a few in venues besides my own website. “Camera Obscura” was written for Friday Flash Fics, a picture prompt site and named after the horror story by Basil Copper, which became an episode of “Night Gallery” in the 70s. About the Author:
A columnist for Queer SciFi, Jeff Baker has worked as a truck driver, courier, sandwich jock and stand up comedian. His stories have been published in “Sherlock Holmes Mystery Magazine,” “Monsters Out of the Closet,” and his blog authorjeffbaker.com, where he posts one flash fiction story a week. He lives in Wichita, Kansas with his husband Darryl. OK, maybe not secret, but not widely advertised.

Happy August Friday, Everyone! I tried to keep the windows open for today's recording, but the cicadas are so loud. Sheesh. Today we have a contemporary m/m from Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga - come have a listen! Wrecked by Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga Kindle Unlimited The call comes when Beckett Adler least expects it. He’s made a new life for himself in Vermont and has a law practice of his own. After four years, he’s even stopped wearing his wedding ring. So when he finds out his husband, bull rider Skyler Paulson, has been seriously injured at an event, he isn’t sure what he wants to do. He knows what’s right, though, so he heads down to Baltimore to bring his man home. Sky knows his injuries are a career-ender, and he can’t believe Beck has come for him after all this time. He’s not a hundred percent sure what went wrong with their marriage, and he has no idea how to be anything but a bull rider. But he wants this second chance, so he grabs at it with both hands. There’s a lot Sky has to learn, from how to walk again to how to settle down with the man he loves. Beck needs to learn to open up and how to be more trusting. For their marriage to work again, both men will have to find a way to meet in the middle. Because neither of them wants to be wrecked anymore. About the authors:
Jodi Payne takes herself way too seriously and has been known to randomly break out in song. Her men are imperfect but genuine, stubborn but likable, often kinky, and frequently their own worst enemies. They are characters you can't help but fall in love with while they stumble along the path to their happily ever after. For those looking to get on her good side, Jodi's addictions include nonfat lattes, Malbec and tequila any way you pour it. ~ Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy’s Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds and her beloved wife, texting her son, and eating Mexican food. When she’s not doing that, she’s writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. BA’s personal saviors include her wife, Julia Talbot, her best friends, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee. Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but has heard the call of the high desert and lives in the Sandias. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head. ~ Jodi’s links: Website Jodi’s Gents (Facebook Group) Bookbub Amazon BA’s links: Website BA’s Cowboys (Facebook Group) Bookbub Amazon That is, a release date for Fluffy rather than a release date of fluffiness.
The Hunt for Red Fluffy, Brimstone 5 has a release date set for September 10, so fire up your Copernicus engines and shine up your horns. The Brimstone flies again. Want to see a blurb? It's here if you want to or not :D Cover coming soon! (Author's note: It's highly recommended that this series be read in order, from Potato Surprise on through Beside a Black Tarn. If you're adventurous and cavalier in your reading, by all means, jump right in. But it would be rather like going to the opera without a program.) Happy Friday, everyone! Today I'm reading from book #6 in the lovely Kris Jacen's With Me series - Always With Me. Come have a listen. :) Always With Me
(With Me #6) by Kris Jacen MLR Press Amazon Smashwords Calvin and Camden Luna -- why yes, their dad is a big baseball fan-- have moved around the world with their parents. Their father has been in the military since before they were born. Proud of their father and uncles and all they've done, neither of them is sure the military is for them. Cam is a fantastic baseball player and Cal loves the science of everything. Haven't they given enough? Tristan Nolan and Maddy Holt both grew up as military kids too, but neither of their fathers moved them around as much as the twins. Maddy wants to save the planet and capture the heart of Calvin Luna... if he'd only open his eyes. Tris has grown up wanting to follow in the footsteps of those before him. But can he be himself -- out and proud --serve and protect his country and end up with the one he's loved for as long as he can remember? What can happen when you grow up a military brat with the ties that they have with their fathers' close friends and their families? Find the love of your life almost from the start? Or find out that maybe you're all too close for anything else? Coming up really fast here! I'll be at the Mischief Corner Books table for Flame Con August 17-18.
Flame Con has moved to Manhattan - it grew too big for its space in Brooklyn - and will be held at the Sheraton Times Square. Tons of cool vendors and panels and a wonderful all-ages inclusive atmosphere. :) Come see us at table #PUB20 in the exhibition hall! |
