At least for now. We have some serious science fiction on deck for the next couple of months. Coming up next: Gravitational Attraction An ESTO Universe novel Actually, the original ESTO Universe novel. This is where it all began, folks. The reissue has a gorgeous new cover that gives it more of the look and feel of the other ESTO stories. There have been a few correction edits, but no substantial changes were made. It's just been missing from the catalog for a while and it feels wonderful to have Turk and Isaac back. Up for pre-order now, releasing May 11. Amazon Barnes & Noble Kobo Apple After that, the rewritten, re-edited, heaven only knows right now how much additional verbiage:
Rarely Pure and Never Simple Variant Configurations 1 So far, we have over 6K of added content. Final count to come... Scheduled for June so far. Firm date to follow.

Well. I don't have to tell any of you that it's been quite the year. Erg.
In a way, it's been good to have a break from the convention-go-round. The run up to cons is always nerve-wracking for me. But. BUT. I miss going. I miss my friends, my tribes, the spaces where people understand and enjoy the same things. With vaccines ramping up, there is a possibility now (I don't say surety yet) that a shortened convention season might still happen this year. So far, the things still on the calendar:
I'm not restocking inventory just yet. Keeping an eye out. I do hope I can see some of you again this year! It's here! Geoffrey the Very Strange is now loose in the e-wilds!
The 9th Magic Emporium story, Geoffrey is m/m fantasy humor set in a very odd little town. (This odd little town calling Geoffrey "very strange" should tell you something.) Come snag your copy - available in ebook and print! I have to ask this every few days because my plate is a bit of a platter right now. Doing my best to keep up. :D Current State of All the Projects: Geoffrey the Very Strange - up for pre-order now
The Anti-Quest - in line edits, currently on track
Gravitational Attraction - rereleasing, on track
In 2012, I started work on a story in answer to a superhero prompt. Naturally, I wanted to write a science fiction take on it - as you do - and Variant Configurations was the result. Originally meant to be a three book series, things happened and only the first book ever released. I do try to keep my promises, even if sometimes I'm a little late... Rarely Pure and Never Simple - rewrites in progress, on track
From The Noblest Motives - brand new, on track so far
Soooo, remember that little princess/dragon/paladin holiday novella I was writing? The nice short one that was going to be maybe 18-20K? Yeah. About that. The large portion of developmental edits are done (dev. editor has it now and I'm hoping it's good :D ) and the nice little short, The Anti-Quest, has become a small novel at over 44K. Oops. There's a release date now, too! Yay! April 13. Will be up for pre-order relatively soon. I'm not explaining this little guy yet, but the wonderful Gus Li drew him for me. :)
I'm not going to discuss this part further then to say I have received my full rights back from Dreamspinner, without issues, per my request. Titles include:
The happier part of this news is that all of my ESTO Universe books will now live in one place at Mischief Corner Books, and I can, when I'm ready, continue the Web of Arcana series.
(Hint: I am not ready. There's so much to do.) The Gravitational Attraction cover did not come back with the book, though, since the rights belong to the artist. So I'm pleased to be able to share the brand new cover for the Grav. Attraction reissue. (It's a beauty :D ) Hello all! Quick note this week to tell you I'll be on the WROTE Podcast this week - 12/18. We talk about the year of Bad Things, where Romance is compared to when I started, recent and upcoming projects.
Baz and Vance are super fun to talk to and things do get hilarious here and there. :D You can catch it on YouTube at the WROTE channel (Lots of good shows - go ahead and subscribe!) Or if you don't want to see me talk with my hands for fifty minutes, you can tune in to the audio from the website: WROTE (Written on the Edge) Current things are in limbo right now, so let's talk a bit about next year. Hurry up, 2021, we've had more than enough of this year. Anyway... First up will be Geoffrey the Very Strange, part of the Magic Emporium series with a whole bunch of cool authors like Meghan Maslow and Kim Fielding. The first story, by Jackie James, is set to release 1/14/21. Geoffrey is scheduled for 3/18/21 and I do have a short synopsis for youthat may or may not be the actual blurb: Aspic encounters Geoffrey while working alone in an herbalist's shop and, initially, isn't certain he's human. Geoffrey is a theoretical necromancer experimenting with replacements for blood magic for summoning and raising the dead. His current line of inquiry involves seashells and do they have any in stock? When Geoffrey finally has some sort of success, Aspic is with him in his lab, but the results aren't at all what Geoffrey was aiming for. Instead of raising the dead rabbit on his table, the spell animates the seashells and rocks, which flee the lab. They soon discover that the spell-animated shells etc. are "zombies" in that they can "infect" other inanimate objects. Geoffrey and Aspic need to find a spell to de-animate them before the world is overrun by seashells and stones gone mad. The next item on my 2021 list is a big one - a return to the Variant Configurations series. This would involve a couple of things...
The plan, long ago, was for a three book series. Only one was ever published. Yes, yes, we won't go into all that. The first book, Rarely Pure and Never Simple has been out of print and off the e-shelves for some time, and Mischief Corner Books is happy to do a re-issue. But... The deal is that I have to at least have the second book written before the first gets reissued. That's the second thing for 2021, then - to finish book 2, From the Noblest Motives. If I have time and a good idea, the third book would follow. That's all the definite plans for 2021 so far with a probable lesbian holiday story at the end of the year again. Anything beyond this will be extra icing. It's almost time. A brand new ESTO Universe novella launching on November 17 - a thing that hasn't happened since 2013! Up for pre-order now!
By Imperial Decree - where we get to explore more of both the Galactic Hansa and the Altairian Empire through the setting and the characters. There's royalty/commoner and fake engagement tropes going on, an AI ferret, and a lightning sword. You may even, if you're very polite, meet the Empress. \o/ Come pre-order your copy here :D : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08MZ84C87 https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/by-imperial-decree https://books.apple.com/lu/book/by-imperial-decree/id1539353735 Where are we now? Briefly, the rewrites are done after content edits. So far, we're still on track for 11/17 for By Imperial Decree. Um, my 30K novella is now 38K, but that's not as huge a jump as some rewrites have been this year (*cough* A Fine Mess *cough*.) Sooooon.... Also, I'll be doing a Facebook Live Ask Me Anything hour on Sunday, November 1. 1 pm EST, my FB group. It's a public group, so I think anyone can come? https://www.facebook.com/groups/angelmartinez/ Come chat with me! :D |
