This was supposed to be the post where I tell you all how Emerald City Comic Con is going. Ah, well. Not so much. We're still waiting for new dates for the convention. We shall see. :)
In Brimstone news, I'm going to start looking at A Fine Mess in relation to other Brimstone stories now. Current writing update: A Fine Mess has just reached one Hell for the Company long. I should do a chart or something...

A lot of my energy has been going toward getting ready for Emerald City Comic Con, but I'm still writing. (Half a page, half a page, half a page onward - The Charge of the Write Brigade, if you will.)
The early Brimstone novels were all eight chapters long. It was sort of a joke, that they would all be eight chapters, no matter how long the chapters got. Potato Surprise - 8 chapters, at about 26.6K. Hell for the Company - 8 chapters, at about 22.7K. Fear of Frogs - 8 chapters, at about 32K (you see what started to happen there?) By the time we get to The Hunt for Red Fluffy, I had to add a ninth chapter and hit about 43K words. We'd gone from snackity-snack size novellas to a light dinner novel size. A Fine Mess is starting to scare me. I'm trying to keep the chapters a reasonable size, and I'm already at chapter five. This is nowhere near the midpoint of the story. Um. Well, then. We'll see how this goes... This third Brimstone Journals collection took a while to get here, right? The publisher has encouraged me to have an exclusive longer story for each Journals collection and I didn't have one for Three until this past holiday season. Anyway, my slow writing process notwithstanding, The Brimstone Journals, Collection Three is now up for pre-order at Amazon. Yay! Release date is February 11, 2020. The Brimstone Journals Collection Three Amazon Cargo hauler, brigand ship, privateer. Crewed by the exiled, the misplaced, the uniquely strange and even a certain government assassin. Together, they've faced interstellar criminals, the wrath of archangels, the threat of frogs, their own terrors, nearly deadly buttercopters, and government paperwork. Through it all, as Brimstone's inhabitants expanded from two demons on the run to a complement of eleven various and sundry beings, they've become more than crew. They've evolved into family. Join us now for some snippets from the characters' timelines, flash fiction shorts between the stories from Shax and Verin as kids in Hell all the way to events after The Hunt for Red Fluffy. The Brimstone Journals, Collection Three also includes a novelette in which the crew discovers that sometimes the simple task of holiday shopping is much more dangerous than it should be. Also, a small housekeeping note:
The Endangered Fae series may vanish for a bit on Amazon. No worries - the publisher is just moving to a new distributor so they have wider options for how books are offered to readers. Here's where we are with Brimstone things:
Happy New Year to everyone! Here's hoping for a year full of more good things than bad! I see a lot of writers sharing their plans for the coming year. Here are mine: Fine. Not quite that bad. But I have put the brakes on a couple of projects for, well, reasons and will be concentrating on Brimstone for now. Brimstone #7 has a title, a purpose and an outline I just had to toss out the window, but look for A Fine Mess in the first half of the year sometime. The first three Brimstone paperbacks are loose in the e-wilds! The second three to follow soon. :)
It has begun! The amazing Vance Bastian is back in the studio with the Brimstone crew, currently working on The Hunt for Red Fluffy!
I can't wait for you all to hear! Happy Friday, everyone! This week's reading is a Brimstone Journal entry. Because I felt like it and this one is appropriate for the new release. :) The Brimstone Journals (or BJ's as my friends like to call them) can be found as The Brimstone Journals: Collection One and The Brimstone Journals: Collection Two at all the online retailers.
For the next story in the Brimstone series, pick up The Hunt for Red Fluffy! It's time! Fluffy has been set loose on an unsuspecting population and is available at the locations below! The newly renumbered and beautifully re-covered Brimstone series relaunch is also available now! (So many exclamation points!!) The Hunt for Red Fluffy Brimstone 6 (more vendors are on the way!) Mischief Corner Books Amazon Kobo Barnes and Noble Someone abandons a pedigree hellcat right where Shax can conveniently claim her and sets off a cataclysmic domino line of events. It's time for the other shoe to drop since the Brimstone has a shadow cabal after them—partly due to Shax's own, er, interesting decisions and partly due to the presence of Agent Julian Parallax onboard. As ship security officer, Ness has a lot on his mind—a dangerous new pet, even more dangerous criminals tracking the Brimstone, and yet another unexpected rescued guest. The last thing he needs is a distraction and Julian, who confuses and confounds him more every moment, is exactly the distraction he doesn't need. Between Shax's reckless gambits and Julian's disregard for his own safety, how is Ness supposed to keep anyone safe? The Brimstone and her intrepid crew do all they can to stay one step ahead, but this time the hunters are closing in. Haven't started the series yet? Here's your first stop - where Shax's rather bumpy journey begins! And the rest of the series - from anti-gravity cows to strange frog reactions to pink hedgehogs and the Poe House! Almost there, folks - Fluffy's launch date comes up next week! In honor of this next release, Mischief Corner Books decided that Brimstone needed a bit of remodeling done. Ms. Ivana approved. The series has been delisted temporarily for new configurations, but will be back up soon. We have in this post the brand new cover for The Hunt for Red Fluffy (plus blurb), but we also have brand new covers and numbering for the entire series. (Eeeeeee!) Potato Surprise is now Brimstone 1 and so on. Take a peek. :) Coming September 10!
