And here it is! The brand new cover for Ryld's Shadows: AURA 4 Bellora and I are so pleased to be back in the AURA world :D Pre-order for Ryld's Shadows goes up January 25 and goes live in March. Not familiar with AURA? It's M/M (and M/M/M) urban fantasy. A little series blurb for you: "AURA, the Agency of Unnatural Resettlement and Assimilation: it’s a weird job, but somebody’s got to do it. A magical catastrophe tears the fabric of reality, causing unpredictable holes between worlds through which anything might fall—elves, centaurs, trolls, yeti. The brave officers and employees of AURA struggle daily to help the lost and injured, and contain the irretrievably violent while their research staff scramble to find a way to reverse the effect. Anything can and does pop through into the human world, sometimes with disastrous and deadly results. It’s a race against time to see if the AURA mages can repair reality and stop the inter-dimensional flood before something crosses over that proves strong enough to destroy the world." The first three books are available through Pride Publishing and all of your favorite online vendors! Ryld's Shadows
AURA 4 AURA's offices have been quiet since the mage tower incident—as quiet as they can be for an agency dedicated to policing holes in reality—and the department heads have been free to turn their attention back to mundane matters. The return to quiet bureaucracy gives AURA's Director of Research, Kai Hiltas, the time to turn his energy to a new issue: a young drow with unusual and dangerous powers named Ryld. Though his shadows always lurk at the edges of his vision, Ryld does his best to live quietly and not let them hurt anyone. He has his work, his apartment, and a succession of minders assigned by AURA who are, ostensibly, there to keep him safe in his new world and to prevent him from causing any scenes with his shadows. Most of the time, the arrangement works. But one disastrous incident causes Ryld's minder to leave him unattended and lost—the precise thing he was hired to prevent. To replace the faithless minder, Kai proposes Hank, a half-goblin accountant recently in the middle of a string of terrible luck, while Kai works out how best to get Ryld the magical training he so desperately needs. For his part, Hank truly likes Ryld and insists he would be happier working as Ryld's companion rather than as a controlling minder. As Hank and Ryld slowly come to terms with sharing space—and eventually more—Kai's search for a teacher for Ryld takes them out west on the invitation of the Elvenhome's aelfe queen and right into the lap of inter-elven feuds, ancient prejudice, conspiracies and trafficking rings. What should have been a pleasant visit soon turns into more than even forever-scheming Kai can handle.

It's been very quiet writing-wise on my end, except for the serial. I know folks aren't used to that from me. Sorry about that. I do know a few things, though, so a brief update:
Tuesday night was the announcement of the Rainbow Awards for 2020-2021. (They've gone to every two years since it's so much work for Elisa.) Oh hey! Hi! I know things have been slow around here, but there are things in the pipeline.
One of those items is Ryld's Shadows, book #4 in the AURA series with Bellora Quinn. Pre-order starts on January 25, which isn't that long from now :o How did that happen? We'll do a cover reveal soon, as well. Fun stuff... Just for this week, anyway. I'm currently in St. Louis for GRL (the Gay Romance Literature Retreat) and will be here through Monday.
Blog posts will publish on their usual schedule since I was a good author and actually, er, scheduled them. If you're in the St. Louis area and would like to stop by and say hello, please come to the author signing on Saturday, October 9, starting at 10:00 am, Hilton at the Ballpark. You do not need to be registered for the event - the signings are open to the public. If you're looking for photos from the event, I'll do my best to post them to the FB group: Angel Martinez: Building Worlds, Constructing Fantasies It's that time - time to let you all know where I'll be at GRL this year. GRL (the Gay Romance Literature Retreat) is an annual retreat for readers of LGBTQ+ romance, which this year is being held at the Hilton at the Ballpark in St. Louis. Official event dates are 10/6 - 10/10 this year. While registration begins on 10/6 and there are some events scheduled for late afternoon/evening, the author specific events start Thursday morning. I will be these places: Thursday, 10/7 Author Lounge (come and chat, pick up some swag and stuff) 12:00 - 12:45 Friday, 10/8 Author Lounge (see above) 10:00 - 10:45 Panel: Writing the Rainbow (it's about more than just the G in LGBTQ+) 11:30 - 12:20 Saturday, 10/9 Featured Author Booksigning (open to the public, anyone can come see us! I will have books to sell!) 10:00 - 11:30 Also on Saturday, don't forget to pick up your bracelet from Ari McKay for charm collecting! I will have hedgehog charms for you, but you need to have the bracelet first! :D There are additional hedgehog charms if you're a Brimstone fan (or if you purchase some Brimstone :D ), but these are separate:
Someone (*coughFreddycough*) decided I needed a prettier, more story appropriate graphic for Shadow Run. I absolutely adore it: Shadow Run is a high fantasy serial about:
Zie, who's been fleeing from something horrible for a long time Essenin, who spots him in a tavern and is interested and Davitts, who really would rather not, thanks, but since Ess is determined... New episodes every Monday. |
